‘Business ranking to further improve’

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar Tuesday said Pakistan’s ease of doing business index jumped by 28 places in ranking of World Bank’s ease of doing business.
By next year the country’s ranking would witness a steep climb next year, he said adding, from 2013 to 2018 Pakistan had lost 26 places in ease of doing business ranking however, in the very first year of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf government, the ease of doing business index improved significantly.
The minister was addressing a two day forum titled “Pakistan Innovating Finance Forum” organized by KARANDAAZ and Asian Development Bank (ADB).
He said since the index counts the performance up to April so it is hoped that the ranking would equally or even more rapidly improve next year because of number of reform measures taken in taxation and other related sectors in the budget 2019-20.
Hammad Azhar pointed out that in Pakistan, the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector contributed 30% to the national GDP and it is comprised of 90% of all enterprises in the country.–Agencies
