Child abuse in Pakistan has raised to an alarming level in recent times. Many Pakistani celebrities have been raising their voices against child abuse in Pakistan. The rising rate of child abuse in Pakistan has got everyone talking, including Pakistani celebrities who are raising their voices against the heinous crime.
One such recent incident has exposed the ugliest reality of thriving child abuse crime in our society when a government servant of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) was arrested few days ago for child pornography and sexual abuse. Taking to Twitter, actor Mehwish Hayat, who is also ‘Goodwill Ambassador for the rights of the girl child’, slammed the culprit and said, “Let’s use this arrest – horrific as it is – to shut down all the networks and mafias exploiting our children in this way. Perverts like this have no place in any civilised society”. Sanam Saeed, Nadia Jamil and Hamza Ali Abbasi have also talked about the same issue through social media. Singer/activist Shehzad Roy also shared a video showing a woman beating a child. “I felt honoured when I was invited to the NA in 2013 & the honourable Speaker Dr Fahmida Mirza helped us pass the law against corporal punishment in schools but then learned that parents are allowed to hit children & that it’s a religious issue, so I was asked to stay away,” he wrote on Twitter.
