Govt to continue mission of development: Governor

LAHORE – Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said on Wednesday that government would continue its mission of development and prosperity of the country and to support the business community. 

He was addressing a ceremony regarding the LCCI award for civil servants and media here at Governor’s House. Lahore Chamber’s President Mian Tariq Misbah, and other office-bearers also spoke on the occasion. 

The Governor said that despite the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s economy was on the path of steady growth. Economy of Pakistan would continue improving during the financial year 2021-22. He said that role of business community held importance in economic development, progress and prosperity of the country. “All institution are on the same page for the progress of the country”, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said and added that Pakistan was moving forward on all fronts. He said that the present government saved the country from economic bankruptcy. 

He said that the business community appreciated the budget. “We are trying our best to remove the obstacles to ensure smooth running of businesses, he said and asserted that special attention was being given to the agriculture sector and new cotton seed is being introduced as per acre cotton yield has creased during the past years,” he added.

He told that shortage of clean water had become a big challenge and to tackle the issue, all segments of society would have to play their role. He said that clean water would be available for 7.6 million people by the end of this year. He said that international donors were also ready to lend support in this regard. 

The Governor appreciated the role of Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, saying that its services were being recognized at global level.  He said that health workers, business community and media played appreciable role during the Covid pandemic and worked as frontline workers.

He said that representatives from public, private and media sectors always extended their best cooperation to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry which enabled it to serve the business community in a better way. 

Mian Tariq Misbah said that public-private partnership provided benefit to both the government and the private sector. He said that private sector was the main source of revenue and it supported the government to run financial affairs of the state.

 He said that the government also availed benefits from the technologies and innovations of the private sector for providing better services through improved operational efficiency. He said that the public sector, for its part, facilitates the private sector to grow their businesses. 

LCCI Senior Vice President Muhammad Nasir Hameed Khan and Vice President Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry will continue to play its role for economic stability of the country. He said that economic targets can be met only through strong public-private partnership. 

Convener of the Standing Committee on LCCI Achievement Awards Muhammad Haroon Arora threw light on the aims and objective of the Friends of LCCI Awards.
